Welcome to Minorities in Peace and Security

For far too long, peace and security spaces in the UK have neglected the voices and concerns of the communities that are most impacted by the decisions made in these fields. Minority groups in the UK - including immigrants, people of colour, refugees and asylum seekers, LGBTQIA+ people, people with disabilities, women and gender minorities - have decisions made for them by people who more often than not do not understand or represent their experience. We seek to change this.
The many discriminatory systems that exist in our society - including racism, classism, misogyny, patriarchy, and ableism - should not be enabled and facilitated by those in power and by the organisations that claim to have citizens’ best interests at heart. It is imperative that we work to acknowledge, address and dismantle these systems of exclusion in order to meet the challenge and increased responsibilities to protect people in a world where division, marginalisation and violence is rising.

We recognise that minorities are often disproportionately affected when it comes to peace and security, but as an integral part of our society, the absence of their voices and their expertise from policy renders decision-making incomplete, is a disservice and a harm to our current society and future generations.
Through creating spaces for growth, collaboration, and honest discussion, Minorities in Peace and Security is dedicated to creating a platform and solidarity network within the UK that fosters thought leadership, forges coalitions for change, and inspires a new generation of advocates for the rights of the most marginalised.
